a for effort, c for execution, hence the four stars.oh, i liked how it made things look, but there is a glitch in how it works. when i opened an application, such as notepad or wordpad, there is a perceptible flicker as the cleartype is overriden by the gdipp setting. also there is no graphical application that i could find for fine tuning the settings.
da best of da best.
on my old laptop a while ago, i used another extractor for downloading items and extracting them. but today, when i went to download it onto my new laptop, i found out that it was not free anymore. i frantically searched the internet for an equal or better solution. when i found 7zip i though "hell, might as well try." so long story short, 7zip really saved me! it works better and faster then winrar and the others and it's free!
excellent, works really well first time. dkdude i wouldn't get an afdb from there, as them ones have trackers built in ;)
for lossless encoding you can use flac or wavpack. it's pretty much the same, as the encodings are, well, lossless. ;) mp3 is always lossy, so there are differences between the codecs. lame encoder being somewhat the best of them. cheers!
last really good version was 7.5. every release since then has gotten slower and more bloated. i bought the lifetime upgrade at version 4, so i do feel i got my monies worth, but it is sad to see yahoo take the thing over. :(this install is 30+ meg and takes forever compared to earlier versions. i've worked with version 4033 and this 4044 seems slower, if that's possible. forced a long reboot just to get the thing going.at least it did recognize my code key and the plus version was properly in place after install. i had 7.5 installed previously and installed this right over the top.it did not properly read the entries in the library and i had to drag and drop them back into the library display on the interface.skin selection is pretty pathetic, with all but one being color variations of the same basic theme.the thing is gosh-awful slow too, and it really doesn't have any innovation in it regarding helpful features. almost all the updates since 7.5 seem to be related to commercial tie-ins.it's sad that this thing never was allowed to continue developing in a useful way.
no ical support?
i personally like this program since its interface is pretty simple. i have a few issues with the features it offers, though. it isn't nearly as powerful as paid programs like nero.since it's free, you can't really complain about what it doesn't do.. but if you have a simple burning project, it is sufficient.
the only thing in this stuff is that it's free. otherwise pretty useless. author should get a quick update on recent motion tracking and optical flow calculation research and use a better tracking algorithm, 'cause this just s*cks. no offence, it just does.
